Javits Juniors Scholarship Program – Year 1
The Javits Center is a center of opportunity, and in its inaugural year, the Javits Juniors Scholarship Program has created new opportunities for two very deserving high school students. Funded by the Marian B. and Jacob K. Javits Foundation, the new program was created to support the higher education of New York City high school students and encourage them to seek ways to improve their community through public service and innovative thinking. Victoria Rodriguez and Ashleyn Arias, of the Urban Assembly School of Design and Construction in Manhattan, won an essay contest for their outstanding work, and as a result, each of them will receive a $5,000 scholarship when they enter college later this year. The program was created in conjunction with the Fund for Public Schools and the New York City Department of Education.
